Rampion Offshore Wind Farm – First Wind Farm on the South Coast of England Farm

JDR was selected to supply 142km of 36kV inter-array cables for the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm, located off the south coast of England. With 116 turbines generating 400MW, this project will power around 350,000 homes. The cables were manufactured at JDR’s Hartlepool facility, with installation services provided for the project.

Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm – Scotland's Largest Offshore Wind Farm

JDR supplied 180 km of 33 kV inter-array cables and associated accessories for the Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm, located 13 km off the Scottish coast. These cables enabled the transmission of energy from the wind turbines to local substations. Manufactured at JDR’s facility in Hartlepool, UK, the cables were then transported to Scotland and installed at the Beatrice wind farm.

The 588 MW project supplies power to 450,000 homes and was one of the first offshore wind farms to be installed in such deep waters. Its objective was to connect 5 MW turbines to an offshore platform, representing a significant step forward in the development of offshore wind energy.

A team of 48 technicians carried out the installation of the cables and associated equipment on the wind turbine platforms, supported by a six-person on-site assistance team. The Beatrice project was a key milestone in offshore wind farm development, demonstrating the potential of renewable energy in challenging marine conditions.

Nordsee One Offshore Wind Farm – New Aluminium Core Inter-Array Cable Design

JDR was selected to supply over 70 km of aluminium core inter-array cables for the Nordsee One Offshore Wind Farm, located 40 km north of Juist Island, Germany. This project, featuring 54 turbines in water depths of up to 34 meters, used two JDR-designed cables: a 240 mm² and an 800 mm² aluminium conductor cable. Manufactured at JDR’s Hartlepool facility, the cables were XLPE insulated and type tested to IEC 60502-2 and CIGRE standards.

London Array Offshore Windfarm

For the London Array, one of the world’s largest offshore wind farms, JDR developed over 200 km of subsea inter-array cables linking turbines to offshore substations. The cables were designed for flexibility, reliability, and cost-effective installation. Manufactured at JDR’s Hartlepool facility, they were delivered in 2010-2011 and were integral to the wind farm’s successful operation.

Gunfleet Sands Offshore Windfarm

JDR provided over 12km of subsea inter-array and export cables for the Gunfleet Sands Offshore Windfarm, supporting the installation of Siemens 6MW turbines. This project required flexible, quick delivery solutions and JDR's proprietary cable systems, including rigid cable repair joints, enhanced installation flexibility, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

Wave Hub – Offshore Wave Energy Farm

JDR supplied a 25km subsea export cable to connect Wave Hub, the world’s largest offshore wave energy test centre, to the North Cornwall power grid. This project supports the testing of Wave Energy Converters (WECs) in a monitored marine environment. JDR also provided custom-engineered Dry Mate Connectors, ensuring reliable, watertight connections within the Wave Hub Chamber.

Greater Gabbard Offshore Windfarm

JDR supplied over 200 km of inter-array subsea power cables for the Greater Gabbard Offshore Windfarm, connecting 140 turbines to offshore substations. These cables were designed for the smallest diameter while ensuring strength and reliability for field installation. JDR’s advanced cable technology and installation expertise were key to the wind farm's success.

Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Demonstrator Project

JDR was contracted to supply subsea inter-array cables for the Beatrice Offshore Windfarm, connecting two 5MW turbines to the Beatrice AP oil platform 25km offshore. As part of the EU's DOWNVInD initiative, this demonstrator project tested the feasibility of deepwater wind farms. JDR designed cables with minimal diameter and optimal strength for challenging offshore conditions, ensuring reliability in the field.
