Hywind Tampen Offshore Wind Farm
JDR was selected to manufacture and supply 66 kV dynamic inter-array cables for the Hywind Tampen project. This project is the first in the world to power oil and gas platforms using floating offshore wind farms, presenting more technical challenges than traditional offshore wind farms with fixed foundations.
2.5 km of 66 kV dynamic inter-array cables connected 11 turbines in a loop, while two static export cables with dynamic ends, measuring 12.9 km and 16 km, were connected to the Snorre A and Gullfaks A platforms. The greater water depth (300 m) required cable accessories specifically designed to withstand higher water pressures. The cables were produced at JDR’s Bydgoszcz facility, and all cables and accessories were supplied from the Hartlepool plant, UK.
The wind power generated by the farm is expected to reduce emissions by 200,000 tonnes of CO₂ and 1,000 tonnes of NOx annually.
